| RAAM 2010: CREW MEMBERS |
NAME: Joe Jamison, Crew Chief HOME TOWN: Moline, Illinois SKILLS: I possess basic computer user-skills. Familiar with Excel, Word, e-mail etc. Weak GPS skills but some user experience. Strong navigation skills…prefer maps vs GPS. Limited mechanical skills aside from derailleur, seat, handlebar adjustments, tire changing etc. Driver, day or night. EXPERIENCE: Crewing: In 2001, I crewed for Jeff Stephens and as Crew Chief, served primarily as navigator and coordinator of the two crews. All of our navigation was handled by the maps provided by the RAAM organizers. Communications were handled by walkie-talkie (2-3 mile range) and cell phones. Coverage using cell phones at the time was poor so planning & communication was critical. Cycling experience: Four PBP’s, two BAM’s, one BMB and 160,000+ career miles. Athletic experience: High school baseball, basketball and football letters. I know the value of teamwork which is what crewing is all about. EXPECTATIONS: Memories of seeing Paul cross the finish line. BACKGROUND: I’ll be 74 years old during RAAM and can function with no sleep!!! I’m a lifetime resident of the Illinois/Iowa region centered in the Quad Cities on the Mississippi River. My wife, Rosemary and I have six children, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I am a retired General Supervisor of Production from Deere and Company. I’ve known Paul since he started logging his rides on the Big Dog website, and began participating in the races that my business partner, Dave Parker and I organize. I’ve been impressed with Paul’s attention to detail in preparation, his demeanor under stressful circumstances and jumped at the chance to support him in his wish to challenge RAAM. I’ve absolutely no doubt that he will be successful. |
