RAAM 2010: CREW MEMBERS

NAME:

Roz Jamison

HOME TOWN:

Moline, Illinois

SKILLS:

Driving, day or night; computer pretty primitive (Word, email); no GPS but very good with maps and getting through cities (good sense of direction!) Although I don't bring technical or mechanical skills to the table, I am practical, a good problem solver, calm in a crisis, "get it" about being a team member, am completely reliable (give me an assignment, and I'll do it), good listener, have a good sense of humor (might even say a sense of the ridiculous). Barring injury or illness, I'll be there cheering you across the finish line.

EXPERIENCE:

Crewing: Crewed for Jeff Stephens in 2001. I served primarily as "hand-off" person, prepared the bottles, and took assignments as given. Cycling: Most of my cyling is with Joe on our tandem. In 2004, we cycled from our home on the Mississippi to our daughter's home near Boston using Adventure Cycling maps. Very challenging. In 2008, we cycled a very challenging route in the mountains of Spain. We've also done Tour de Nebraska and TOMRV at least 8 times. No competitive cycling for me, however. Athletic experience: I grew up before girls' sports were organized, so I didn't have that opportunity. I did take up running awhile back and for the past 4 years have been running about 30 miles a week. This year I ran the Bix 7 and came in fourth in my age groups. I like to brag about that!

EXPECTATIONS:

Expectations? I truly try to stay in the present moment and limit expectations. I've found that when I have expectations, I pretty much miss what's really going on! Having said that, I will tell you I expect to be challenged, frustrated, encouraged. discouraged, exhausted, exhilirated, crazed, awed, entertained, worked to death, and all the rest! I will, of course, endeavor to meet your expectations of me as a crew member.

BACKGROUND:

I'm Rosemary Long Jamison. Born in Tecumseh, Nebraska; raised in Lincoln. I am, of course, a Big Red fan! Between us, Joe and I have six children, 14 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. They live all over the place: Las Vegas, NV; Sterling, MA; Grand Island, NE; Stoughton, WI; and the Quad Cities. We don't get to see as much of these folks as we would like, but we do have some great vacation destinations! I am a proud John Deere retiree. I worked in labor relations (we called it Industrial Relations) at several locations: Davenport Works, Harvester Works, and Deere & Company. I was on the management team for three negotiations sessions with the UAW; however, the best and most interesting work experiences were at the factory level, working with our local UAW shop committees and administering the labor agreement. My educational degrees are from Lincoln High School, St. Ambrose College, and the University of Iowa. Joe and I, along with our partners Lori and Dave Parker operate a small business - Ultra Midwest - organizing bicycle races. I met Paul when he participated in our bicycle races and have become "kinda" acquainted with him by visiting after the races and at dinners prior to the races. I can tell he is completely committed to success at RAAM, and I want to support him in every way I can. I also appreciate his keen sense of humor, not to mention that he is a psychologist - the career I always dreamed about!
